If a venue can't tell you who signs off on their pokie licence, why would anyone hand them A$50 in the first place? Every pub and club floor I've been on around Geelong has the licensing authority printed somewhere obvious, and staff answer straight away if you ask. A place that goes vague at the cage has told you everything you need to know.
I'd also want to see actual withdrawal proof from anyone praising the joint, not just "payouts were sweet mate". Cashout screenshot or it didn't happen. Ask them directly for the regulator's name, and if they fumble that, walk out and keep your grand for a venue that's actually accountable.

tom, the cage is just the cashier counter where you change your notes - nothing fancier than that. and yes, you can literally walk up and ask who regulates the floor before you put a cent through a pokie. most venues have the licence displayed somewhere near the entrance anyway, but if the staff give you a blank stare when you ask, that tells you everything you need to know before dropping your A$50 😄

Anyone can print a logo on a wall. What I'd actually do before a trip: look the venue name up on the state regulator's own register first, then match what's on the wall against that. Takes five minutes and saves you the awkward chat at the counter.
